The Quematrice, a large chicken-like monster, is inspired by the Cockatrice but thankfully breathes fire instead of turning hunters to stone. Most weapons are effective, but its attacks often affect a wide area. Ranged weapons might be preferable for less experienced hunters.

While its tail sweeps and strikes inflict damage, its most powerful attack is a tail slam. Sidestepping or blocking easily avoids this. However, its fire attacks are more dangerous, causing direct damage and inflicting burn status, which drains health and can also ignite the ground.

These fire attacks lack clear warning signs. It can unleash a forward fire blast after a roar and head/tail raise. A full sweep attack after a similar roar and raise also ignites the area around it. It can also combine a charge with a last-second fire blast. Ranged hunters should back away to avoid this attack.

How to Capture the Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds

Capturing the Quematrice requires preparation. Bring Shock and Pitfall Traps, along with at least two Tranquilizer Bombs. A backup trap is highly recommended.

Once the Quematrice is significantly weakened (limping, or the skull icon on the minimap is fading), set a trap. Ideally, wait until it moves to a new area after limping. Lure it into the trap, then deploy two Tranquilizer Bombs for a successful capture.
