How To Get Paradisan Ladder in Avowed

There are five primary methods for acquiring Paradisan Ladder in Avowed: purchasing from Merilyn the merchant, foraging while exploring, earning it as a side quest reward, breaking down existing items, and downgrading Hylea's Talon.

Merylin the Merchant

Purchasing from Merilyn in South Paradise (see map above) offers the fastest guaranteed method. Initially, she'll mention a rivalry with her blacksmith sister, after which you can browse her inventory. She typically stocks five Paradisan Ladder units at 150 coins each. She also sells the Many-Hued Doublet and the Common Grimoire of Elements, both yielding additional Paradisan Ladder when broken down (two units each). Note that her inventory doesn't seem to replenish after selling out.

Find Paradisan Ladder When Exploring in the Wild & in Cities

Paradisan Ladder can be found throughout the game world, both in wilderness areas and occasionally in cities like Paradise. Look for the plant icon on your mini-map (red circle in image above) to locate these herbs. While other plants may resemble Paradisan Ladder, actively searching your immediate vicinity during gameplay provides a steady, free supply.

Side Quests

Avowed's difficulty curve, partly dependent on Paradisan Ladder availability, encourages side quest participation. Many side quests, such as the early "Escape Plan" quest, reward crafting materials, including Paradisan Ladder. Completing these quests provides additional herbs while granting XP and other benefits.

Breaking Down Items

In Avowed, you can break down items to recover their base crafting materials (Softwood Branches, Pelts, Iron Chunks, etc.). Higher-quality items upgraded with Paradisan Ladder will return some of the herb upon deconstruction. Check merchant inventories for unique items with Paradisan Ladder listed in their breakdown details.

Downgrading Hylea’s Talon Into Paradisan Ladder

Once you reach Emerald Stair and acquire Hylea's Talon, a higher-tier herb, you can downgrade it into three Paradisan Ladder units per Talon. Access the downgrade function at your party camp workbench by switching to the "Crafting" tab and then selecting "Downgrade" from the "Upgrade Materials" section. This method is particularly useful for quickly upgrading weapons if you change your build later in the game.

Now that you know how to obtain Paradisan Ladder, consider exploring the Avowed timeline within the Pillars of Eternity universe and whether Avowed offers any multiplayer features.
