Astro Bot Reaches Unbelievable Milestone

Astro Bot: A Platforming Champion Crowned with 104 Game of the Year Awards

Team Asobi's Astro Bot has achieved a remarkable feat, surpassing all other platformers to become the most awarded in history, boasting an impressive 104 Game of the Year awards. This surpasses the previous record holder, It Takes Two, by a significant 16 awards.

Initially released in September 2024, Astro Bot, an expansion of the popular PS5 tech demo Astro's Playroom, quickly garnered critical acclaim and became the highest-rated new game of the year. Its success culminated in a Game of the Year win at The Game Awards 2024. However, the true extent of its accolades only recently came to light, thanks to a Twitter user and gamefa.com's Game of the Year Award Tracker.

While this achievement is monumental for a platformer, it's important to note that Astro Bot's award count pales in comparison to titles like Baldur's Gate 3 (288 awards), Elden Ring (435 awards), and The Last of Us Part 2 (326 awards). Nevertheless, Astro Bot's commercial success, exceeding 1.5 million copies sold by November 2024, is a testament to its quality and popularity, especially considering its relatively small development team and budget.

The game's triumph firmly establishes Astro Bot as a major player in the PlayStation franchise, exceeding initial expectations and solidifying its place in gaming history.
