Author:Kristen Update:Apr 05,2025

Ubisoft's latest addition to the iconic stealth-action open-world series, Assassin's Creed Shadows, has finally arrived, inviting fans to explore 16th-century Japan through the eyes of Naoe and Yasuke. With over 30 games released under the Assassin's Creed banner, we're focusing solely on the mainline entries for this ranking. From Desmond Miles' first steps as Altaïr in 2007 to the latest adventure, we've seen the series evolve over 18 years. Now, we're asking you to decide where Assassin's Creed Shadows ranks among its predecessors.

I've crafted a personal tier list based on my enjoyment of each game, and you can check it out below:

For me, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag remains the pinnacle of the series, earning its spot in the S-tier alongside Assassin's Creed 2. Black Flag's blend of island exploration, thrilling ship combat, and vibrant cast creates an unparalleled Assassin's Creed experience. Assassin's Creed 2, which truly put the series on the map, joins it in the top tier. In the A-tier, I've placed Valhalla, perhaps a surprising choice for some, but I thoroughly enjoyed its Viking-themed combat and the engaging Orlog minigame. Unity also finds a home here, lauded for its breathtaking depiction of Paris during the French Revolution, which still holds up visually a decade on.

Do you disagree with my rankings? Perhaps you think Valhalla is overly bloated, or that Assassin's Creed 2 is overrated? Now's your chance to create your own tier list and see how your S, A, B, C, and D tiers compare with the IGN community.
