How To Anoint in Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2)

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 02,2025

In the action-packed world of *Path of Exile 2*, enhancing your character's power is key to surviving the game's challenges. One of the ways to achieve this is through anointing, which involves using Distilled Emotions on your amulets and Waystones. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to anoint in *Path of Exile 2*.

How To Get Distilled Emotions in Path of Exile 2

Anointing becomes available later in the game, as you'll need Distilled Emotions, which you can only obtain from Delirium Maps. If you're familiar with the original *Path of Exile*, think of Distilled Emotions as akin to Blight Oils. There are ten distinct types of Distilled Emotions you can collect: Despair, Disgust, Envy, Fear, Greed, Guilt, Ire, Isolation, Paranoia, and Suffering.

The primary method to acquire Distilled Emotions is by completing Delirium Maps, which reward you with a random selection of these emotions upon completion. Alternatively, you can trade for them through currency exchange or the trade market.

To upgrade your Distilled Emotions, utilize the Reforging Bench. By combining three of the same type, you can create an upgraded version of that emotion, giving you more control over your collection.

For those seeking a tougher challenge, Simulacrum waves offer a chance to drop Distilled Emotions. However, this method is less efficient than Delirium Maps and requires a robust build to tackle the increased difficulty.

How To Anoint Items in Path of Exile 2

Anointing is currently applicable to amulets and Waystones, though future updates during Early Access might expand these options. To anoint an amulet, first, select any Distilled Emotion to access the Instilling window. Place your amulet in the central slot, followed by three Distilled Emotions in the bottom slots. The specific emotions needed for the desired anointing ability are listed in the Passive Skill Tree. Simply hover over a Notable Passive Skill and press alt on your keyboard or R3 on your controller to see the requirements.

The skills you choose to anoint will vary with your build, and remember, anointing isn't a permanent choice. You can re-anoint an amulet by following the same process, allowing the new skill to override the old one, adapting to your current build's needs.

Similarly, you can anoint Waystones to increase their difficulty, which in turn can yield better loot. However, keep in mind that both amulets and Waystones cannot be anointed if they are corrupted.

With these steps, you're equipped to enhance your amulets through anointing, tailoring your build for optimal performance or challenging yourself by anointing a Waystone in *Path of Exile 2*.

*Path of Exile 2 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.*
