NetEase's Upcoming Open-World RPG, Ananta (formerly Project Mugen), Unveils New Trailer

Remember Project Mugen, the urban open-world RPG from Naked Rain and NetEase? It's had a name change! Now known as Ananta, this title, initially revealed at Gamescom 2023, finally offers a fresh look via a newly released trailer. More details are promised on December 5th. Until then, enjoy the trailer:

The Reason Behind the Name Change?

The developers haven't yet commented on the shift from Project Mugen to Ananta. Interestingly, both names translate to "infinite" – Mugen in Japanese and Ananta in Sanskrit. The Chinese title further supports this thematic consistency.

The gaming community is divided on the rebranding, though relief is widespread that the project hasn't been cancelled. Comparisons are already being drawn between Ananta and Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness. While Ananta's trailer is visually striking, the lack of gameplay footage gives Neverness to Everness a perceived advantage for some players. Personally, I find Ananta's aesthetic more captivating.

A Curious Turn of Events

Adding to the intrigue, the development team has deleted all their original social media accounts, including a YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and millions of video views. Only their Discord server remains, simply renamed to reflect the game's new title. This unexpected move has left many gamers puzzled.

In Ananta, players take on the role of an Infinite Trigger, a paranormal investigator combating supernatural threats. The cast includes notable characters like Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
