Analyst Predicts Nintendo Switch 2 Sales for 2025

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 02,2025

Gaming analyst Mat Piscatella forecasts robust US sales for the Nintendo Switch 2, projecting approximately 4.3 million units sold in 2025, contingent on a first-half launch. This prediction positions the Switch 2 as a significant player, capturing roughly one-third of the US console market (excluding handheld PCs). This echoes the original Switch's impressive 4.8 million unit sales by the end of 2017, a figure that exceeded Nintendo's initial projections and necessitated air-freighting additional consoles to meet demand. The anticipation surrounding the Switch 2 is palpable, frequently trending on social media.

However, Piscatella cautions that translating this hype into substantial sales hinges on several critical factors. A timely launch, coupled with a compelling hardware offering and a competitive game lineup, will be crucial for success. The analyst anticipates potential supply chain challenges, mirroring the initial release of the original Switch and the PlayStation 5. Whether Nintendo has proactively addressed these potential bottlenecks remains to be seen.

While optimistic about the Switch 2's performance, Piscatella still predicts the PlayStation 5 will retain its position as the top-selling console in the US market in 2025. The highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6, slated for 2025, could significantly boost PlayStation 5 sales. Nevertheless, the Switch 2's success will ultimately depend on the quality of its hardware and its launch titles. The level of excitement surrounding the console suggests it has the potential to be a major contender.
