Netflix offers a quick recap of the original Happy Gilmore for those needing a refresher on the classic story.

In the original Happy Gilmore, Sandler’s character found peace after a grueling golf season, including a memorable fight with Bob Barker from The Price Is Right. Aiming to settle his grandmother’s overdue IRS taxes, the former hockey player turned unconventional golfer shook up the Tour Championship.
Happy gained friends like Chubbs Petersen, played by the late Carl Weathers, and a homeless caddy portrayed by Allen Covert, while clashing with foes like Shooter McGavin, played by Christopher McDonald, and Bob Barker. Against all odds, he proved the golf elite wrong, saved his grandmother’s home, and returned victorious.
The sequel’s plot remains unclear on how it will revive Happy’s golf journey, but his legendary status endures, even among top real-world golfers.

News of Happy Gilmore 2 surfaced in March 2024, with Netflix confirming the sequel’s order in May. Kyle Newacheck directs, with a script by Sandler and Tim Herlihy.
