Abyss of Dungeons: Dark and Darker Mobile's New Name Revealed

Author:Kristen Update:May 14,2025

Krafton has taken a significant step to distance itself from the ongoing legal issues surrounding Ironmace Studios by rebranding Dark and Darker Mobile to Abyss of Dungeons. This move primarily involves a name change, along with the likely removal of certain Dungeons & Dragons-specific elements, while the core gameplay mechanics remain untouched.

For those unfamiliar with the situation, Ironmace Studios is currently entangled in a legal dispute with Nexon. The latter accuses Ironmace, founded by former Nexon employees, of utilizing trade secrets and assets developed during their tenure at Nexon to create Dark and Darker. The lawsuit remains unresolved, and as we previously reported in February, there were indications that Dark and Darker Mobile might undergo a name change. This has now been confirmed with the rebranding to Abyss of Dungeons.

Reassuringly, the name change does not signal any alterations to the core gameplay mechanics. Dark and Darker Mobile had already introduced significant changes, such as a third-person perspective, but fans can rest assured that the essence of the game remains intact.

While this development might be disheartening for Ironmace enthusiasts, there is hope that the studio's legal battles will resolve soon. In the meantime, fans can look forward to Abyss of Dungeons as a companion to the main PC version of Dark and Darker. An upcoming soft launch is scheduled for June 11th in Brazil, Thailand, Indonesia, and Mexico.
