MAME4droid (0.37b5)

MAME4droid, developed by David Valdeita (Seleuco), is an Android port of the MAME 0.37b5 emulator originally created by Nicola Salmoria and the MAME Team. This app is a continuation of the work on iMAME4all for jailbroken iOS devices and is based on GP2X, WIZ MAME4ALL 2.5 by Franxis. MAME4droid supports the emulation of arcade games from the MAME 0.37b5 version and includes some additional games from newer MAME iterations, covering over 2000 different romsets.

It's important to note that with such a vast library of games, performance can vary significantly. Some games may run smoothly, while others might not be compatible with MAME4droid at all. Users are advised not to contact the developer about specific game compatibility issues. For those using older devices, enhancing performance may involve adjusting settings such as lowering sound quality, switching to 8-bit depth, underclocking the CPU and Sound CPUs, and disabling animations and smooth scaling.

To use MAME4droid, users need to place their MAME-compatible zipped roms in the /sdcard/ROMs/MAME4all/roms folder after installation. The app is designed to work with romsets from MAME 0.37b5 and GP2X, WIZ 0.37b11. Users can convert romsets from other MAME versions using the "clrmame.dat" file included in the /sdcard/ROMs/MAME4all/ directory, along with the ClrMAME Pro utility available at http://mamedev.emulab.it/clrmamepro/. It's also worth noting that MAME4droid does not support save states, as it is based on a MAME version that does not include this feature.
