La sortie de SteamWorld Heist 2 sur Xbox Game Pass a été officiellement retirée. Malgré des documents marketing antérieurs suggérant son inclusion, l'équipe de relations publiques du développeur, Fortyseven, a confirmé que la liste du Game Pass était une erreur. Le jeu de stratégie, suite du titre acclamé de 2015, sera toujours lancé le 8 août sur PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One et Xbox Series X/S.

L'annonce initiale du Game Pass, faite en avril avec la bande-annonce du jeu, présentait le logo Game Pass par inadvertance. Les publications ultérieures sur les réseaux sociaux faisant référence à la disponibilité du Game Pass ont depuis été supprimées.

Ce n'est pas la première fois que l'inclusion du Game Pass dans un jeu est annoncée par erreur ; un incident similaire s'est produit avec Shin Megami Tensei 5 : Vengeance, attribué à une erreur de modèle.

Bien que décevant pour les abonnés Xbox Game Pass, le service propose toujours une large sélection de jeux SteamWorld, notamment SteamWorld Dig et SteamWorld Dig 2 récemment ajoutés, ainsi que la première version de l'année dernière, SteamWorld Build.

Bien que SteamWorld Heist 2 ne soit pas un titre Game Pass du premier jour, juillet propose une solide gamme d'autres versions du premier jour sur le service, notamment Flock, Magical Delicacy, Flintlock : Le siège de l'aube, Donjons de Hinterberg, Kunitsu-Gami : Path of the Goddess et le très attendu Frostpunk 2.
