Capcom a dévoilé les premières images du gameplay de Resident Evil Requiem à travers de courts extraits présentés lors de son événement en direct.

Lors du showcase Capcom Spotlight, les développeurs ont prévisualisé des séquences de jeu intenses à la première personne, présentant la nouvelle protagoniste, l'agent du FBI Grace Ashcroft. Les images montrent Ashcroft parcourant des couloirs sinistres éclairés uniquement par la flamme vacillante d'un briquet, pour aboutir à une rencontre terrifiante avec une imposante créature humanoïde émergeant de l'ombre.

Un autre extrait en vue subjective révèle Ashcroft en train d'investiger un grand hall armée de son pistolet de service - mettant en lumière sa formation au maniement des armes en tant qu'agent du FBI. L'aperçu démontre son aptitude à l'investigation à travers un examen minutieux de l'environnement, incluant l'observation d'objets dans le style d'inspection en gros plan signature de Resident Evil.

Un bref segment en perspective à la troisième personne montre Ashcroft explorant des environnements faiblement éclairés tandis que la même créature menaçante rôde de manière inquiétante en arrière-plan.

Les concepteurs de Capcom ont expliqué comment la vue à la première personne intensifie l'immersion et le réalisme, tandis que la perspective à la troisième personne par-dessus l'épaule s'adapte mieux au gameplay axé sur l'action. "Les joueurs peuvent instantanément changer de perspective à tout moment via le menu Options," ont-ils noté.

L'histoire se déroule trente ans après la destruction de Raccoon City dans Resident Evil 3, abordant l'énorme cratère aperçu dans les bandes-annonces précédentes. Capcom précise que le sous-titre "Requiem" rend hommage aux histoires et personnages précédents de la franchise.

Alors que l'implication de Leon Kennedy reste non confirmée malgré les spéculations des fans, les développeurs ont laissé entendre de potentielles révélations concernant le rôle de ce vétéran.
