LocalThunk, le développeur solo derrière le jeu indépendant à succès Balatro (3,5 millions d'exemplaires vendus !), a déclaré Animal Well son jeu de l'année 2024. Les deux jeux ont été critiques et préférés des joueurs en 2024.

Balatro, un jeu de construction de deck à petit budget sorti en février 2024, est devenu de manière inattendue un énorme succès. Malgré le succès phénoménal de Balatro, LocalThunk continue de soutenir le jeu avec des mises à jour gratuites. Trois mises à jour "Friends of Jimbo" ont déjà introduit du contenu croisé de titres populaires tels que Cyberpunk 2077, Among Us et Dave the Diver.
