Développé par Grumpyface Studios et édité par Yodo1, ce jeu de stratégie de tower defense, initialement sorti en 2014, propose une nouvelle vision du mal. Grumpyface, connu pour ses succès comme « Steven Universe : Attack the Light » et « Teeny Titans », avait initialement prévu un simple remake. Cependant, ils ont judicieusement divisé le projet, créant « Free To Slay » pour mobile et une version « Classic » pour PC et Nintendo Switch (sortie plus tard cette année). La version Classic propose des visuels remasterisés et des fonctionnalités mises à jour. Une suite, "Castle Doombad 2: Muahaha!", est également en développement.
