Boerenbridge, also known in Flanders as Chinese Pooping, is an engaging card game where the goal is to accurately predict and achieve the number of strokes (or tricks) in each round. Here's a detailed guide on how to keep track of points in this popular game:
Game Overview
- Objective: Predict and win the number of strokes you bid for each round.
- Rounds: The game consists of multiple rounds, starting with one card per player and increasing by one card each round until reaching the maximum number of cards possible, then decreasing back to one card per round.
- Bidding: Players bid on the number of strokes they expect to win, starting with the player to the left of the dealer. The highest bidder sets the trump suit.
- Dealer's Restriction: The dealer, who bids last, cannot bid a number that would make the total number of strokes equal to the number of cards dealt in that round.
Scoring System
Bid Achieved:
- If a player wins exactly the number of strokes they bid, they score 10 points plus the number of strokes bid. For example, bidding 3 strokes and winning 3 strokes results in a score of 13 points (10 + 3).
Bid Not Achieved:
- If a player does not win the exact number of strokes they bid, they lose 10 points. For instance, bidding 3 strokes but winning 2 or 4 strokes results in a deduction of 10 points.
Total Points:
- Points are accumulated over all rounds. The player with the highest total points at the end of the last round wins the game.
Example of a Round
Let's consider a game with four players in the 7th round, where each player is dealt 7 cards:
- Player 1 bids: 0 strokes
- Player 2 bids: 3 strokes
- Player 3 bids: 2 strokes
- Player 4 (dealer) bids: Cannot bid 2 strokes (as 0 + 3 + 2 + 2 = 7), so they might bid 1 stroke.
If the actual strokes won are as follows:
- Player 1 wins: 0 strokes (Bid achieved: 10 + 0 = 10 points)
- Player 2 wins: 3 strokes (Bid achieved: 10 + 3 = 13 points)
- Player 3 wins: 2 strokes (Bid achieved: 10 + 2 = 12 points)
- Player 4 wins: 1 stroke (Bid achieved: 10 + 1 = 11 points)
In this example, all players achieved their bids, so they all score positively.
End of Game
- The game continues through rounds, increasing and then decreasing the number of cards dealt, until the final round with one card per player.
- The player with the highest cumulative score at the end of the last round is declared the winner.
