Battle of Sudoku: A Multiplayer Sudoku Showdown
Love Sudoku and want to challenge friends? Battle of Sudoku is a multiplayer version where you compete against other players or teams. The goal remains the classic Sudoku objective: fill a 9x9 grid with digits so each column, row, and 3x3 subgrid contains all digits from 1 to 9.
Game Setup and Difficulty:
Before starting, select a difficulty level (1-6) in the game options. Level 1 is easiest, 6 is hardest. This determines the number of pre-filled digits, impacting the challenge for all players simultaneously. Every player receives the identical puzzle.
Game Modes:
Two modes are available, configurable in the game options:
- "Show correct numbers of your opponent": Each correctly placed number is visible to all players, earning points. Players cannot place a number already used by another player. Speed and accuracy are key!
- "Hide correct numbers of your opponent": Players cannot see each other's correct numbers. This allows for multiple players to earn points with the same number.
Time-Outs and Penalties:
Incorrectly placed numbers result in a time-out, preventing actions for a configurable period (default: 30 seconds). Incorrect numbers also deduct points (half the value earned for a correct placement).
Scoring and Winning:
Points are awarded for each correct number, with higher difficulty levels yielding more points per correct answer. The game ends when the puzzle is solved. In the mode where correct numbers are visible, the player with the most points wins. If correct numbers are hidden, the game ends when one player solves the puzzle, but other players can still win based on fewer mistakes.
Team Play:
A team play option allows two teams to compete. Join a team (1 or 2), and once a team has at least two players, the points earned by team members are combined. Notes and filled colors are shared within the team, facilitating collaborative strategies.
Solving Tools:
A toolbar below the puzzle provides tools for solving:
- Pen Tool: Add notes (mini-numbers) to squares. Selecting a number already present in a square removes it.
- Fill Mode: Change the background color of any square (including solved ones).
